In today’s office buildings and workplaces, energy cost occupies a significant proportion of the total building management cost.
With the NDC’s all-connected sensory infrastructure, it becomes unprecedentedly easy to track and monitor energy consumption as well as improve energy efficiency. For instance, with presence detection sensors, a room can detect once people enter and turn on the lights, heating and ventilation accordingly. Similarly, when all people have left, NDC can automatically turn off lights and adjust heating and ventilation to low operations. Other than that, depending on the current natural conditions, NDC can adjust lighting, indoor temperature and humidity to ensure building occupants’ comfort while optimizing energy.

Office buildings rely on ordinary video-based surveillance systems, such as CCTVs, for security monitoring purposes. However, such traditional solutions have some limitations for timely alerting. In most cases, they only provide evidence for retrospective investigations.
The NDC infrastructure complements the traditional CCTVs and adds more smart services to improve the overall visibility. For instance, AI-based algorithms can help analyze live video feeds and report suspicious activities. Most importantly, with real-time location tracking of all staff, visitors and service providers, better traceability is achieved. Other than that, if a problem, issue or accident is flagged, the location of the incident shows directly on the shared map for a timely response.
Moreover, NDC can also include other status sensors to track other situations of objects of interest. For instance, during the pandemic, it may be helpful to constantly monitor everyone’s temperature to make sure that all people present are symptom-free.
